PMC prodigy5

Reviews & Awards
FOR ONCE, THIS SPEAKER HAS MUCH MORE TO OFFER THAN JUST A NAME: IT TRULY BOASTS A REMARKABLE DESIGN, INCORPORATING ALL THE PRO-AUDIO EXPERTISE OF ITS MANUFACTURER AND YET REMAINS SURPRISINGLY AFFORDABLE.
For a Hi-Fi manufacturer, having an established reputation in the professional audio field comes with both advantages and disadvantages. The positive aspect is that it guarantees excellent performance, durability, along with other upsides. Studios, which do not frequently change their equipment, want their equipment choices to be right on the first purchase. On the other hand, consumers might assume that 'pro-grade' equipment will be expensive, especially when a company's name includes the word 'Professional,' and they have a reputation for hand-building products in the UK.
This challenge is what the UK company PMC (Professional Monitor Company) is addressing with its new Prodigy speakers. Despite having ranges of high-end designs, the company deliberately designed the prodigy speakers to be more affordable, targeting a wider consumer audience.

The Prodigy range consists of two models: the bookshelf-sized Prodigy1 and the compact floor-standing Prodigy5. These speakers are engineered to keep costs down while maintaining the same high standard of performance as their more expensive counterparts. PMC achieves this by utilising tried and tested components and managing expenditure wisely without compromising on quality.
The Prodigy5 speaker, which we have here, delivers stunning sound quality for its price, easily competing (and winning) with other speakers in the same price range. Despite its unassuming appearance, the speaker stands out in its ability to convey the music with precision and captivate the listener.

The design features PMC's familiar drive-units, including a 27mm soft-dome tweeter and a 13.3cm mid/bass driver with a natural fibre cone for powerful bass. The tweeter is designed for wide dispersion, enhancing the listening experience for a broader audience, while the bass tuning uses Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) technology, found in most PMC designs, to optimise bass output and reduce distortion.
The Prodigy5 speakers impress with their depth and speed of bass, clarity, focus, and definition. They do not require massive amplifier power to perform well, and the ATL design allows for more flexible room positioning compared to conventional ported speakers.
Pairing the Prodigy5 with different amplifiers, such as the NAD 3050 integrated amp or the latest-generation Naim NAP 250, reveals their ability to adapt and grow with your system, enhancing the overall listening experience.

In addition to their exceptional performance, the Prodigy5 speakers are easy to set up and operate. They sound impressive in various room sizes and musical genres.

These affordable PMC Prodigy speakers are something truly special. They have the sensitivity to breathe life into entry-level systems or modest amplifiers, but they also have the capacity to elevate their performance as your setup evolves.
