Diora Swidnica Sp. z o.o. in trouble, possible purchase by Unitra in the works
A well-known Polish OEM loudspeaker cabinet manufacturer Diora Swidnica Sp. z o.o., which also produces Diora brand loudspeakers, declared insolvency in the beginning of June and currently is in administration.
Diora, unfortunately, has a long history of financial troubles and was a recipient of special government emergency financial aid packages several times. While the brand name itself have been established in Poland in 1945 for radio and other home electronics, in the 1990s Diora was restructured and assigned to a former furniture and loudspeaker factory in Swidnica, built mid-1970s. Under Diora Acoustics name, the new company, still state owned, soon became one of the big OEM contractors for loudspeaker cabinets in Europe and in 2014 moved to a new, modern factory 6 000 square meters in size. In 2023 Diora also started producing speakers under their own brand. Shortly after that the state owner took another attempt to attract private funding and after failing to do so, decided to declare bankruptcy. Diora Swidnica Sp. z o.o. has circa 115 employees all of which received redundancy notices this July. The factory is now shut despite outstanding orders.
President of Diora, Maciej Rojek, informed Polish journalists that the company does not have any major liabilities to its creditors and there are talks with three potential buyers, two foreign and one Polish, but the state control (Industrial Development Agency, Agencji Rozwoju Przemysłu) organisation and Trade Union have to approve the sale.
British hi-fi website hifipig.com recently named Unitra sp. z o.o. of Warsaw as a potential buyer. Unitra also is a brand name from Poland's socialist past which was resurrected by private investors as Unitra sp. z o.o. in 2021.
