Qobuz adds DSD & DXD HiRes music downloads

Qobuz streaming has added DSD DXD Hires formats audio library
Qobuz, one of the major internet subscription services for lossless music, announced that it has added more than 22 500 tracks available for download in High Resolution DSD and DXD formats.
This is a first for a major music subscription service which before that relied on High Resolution pure PCM tracks in their download libraries. DSD is a bitstream (pulse density modulation) system invented by Sony and popular in Japan, which can be used both for recording and playback. Most of the tracks available now for Qobuz subscribers are in DSD audio format and as .dsf file format. Initially DSD music was released on optical Super Audio CD disks, but now can be also distributed in file format (.dsf for consumer and .dff for studios).
DXD is an offshoot of traditional high resolution PCM originally intended as an intermediary studio format for editing DSD recordings on PCM workstations. Currently it is used for storing very high resolution audio (24 or 32 bit, 384 kHz sampling rate) which originated in DSD but have been converted to PCM in post-production. DXD is usually wrapped in FLAC container and offered for download as high res FLAC files.
As per Qobuz press-release titles available now in DSD and DXD formats come from prestigious labels including Sony Music, Universal Music, Columbia, RCA, Epic, ECM, Deutsche Grammophon and harmonia mundi. Link to DSD catalogue. Link to DXD catalogue.
Price and availability of DSD and DXD downloads would probably be account- and country-dependent. More information is expected soon.
