New cable product is now available from Chord Company. High level subwoofer interconnect enables an amplifier to drive a high level input equipped active subwoofer, a connection type with many benefits in subwoofer installations.
New high level subwoofer interconnects are available in Shawline and Epic performance tiers. Developed specifically for this type of application and tested in many amp/sub combinations the new cables use a set of three identical individually shielded runs of heavy gauge —14 AWG (Shawline) or 12 AWG (Epic) — silver-plated stranded copper wire with PTFE isolation. The construction ensures linear signal transfer, minimum phase shift and efficient defense from air-borne interference.

Both Epic and Shawline subwoofer cables are terminated with ChordOhmic Choralloy® plated spades and Swiss-made Neutrik Speakon connectors optimised for audio signal transfer with virtually no loss or any other type of distortion.
The Chord Company subwoofer cables are handmade to order at company's factory in Wiltshire and offer a wide range of custom options, lengths and terminations.
High level inputs on a subwoofer is a sound quality-oriented feature which allows to bypass 'Bass management' circuitry inside an AV-amp which can be a source of distortion and 'electronic haze'. The presumed advantage is that the subwoofer will receive exactly the same audio signal as the main speakers, with same timing and timbre, which are not truly preserved after processing and delay in the bass management circuit. It also allows to accommodate many power amps (with the exception of most bridged-mode and class D amplifiers) to feed the subwoofer from speaker output as opposed to variable line-out connection which is not available in every amplifier.
High level subwoofer connection can be used in both stereo (music) and multichannel (cinema) set-ups. Consult your dealer for wiring diagrams for your particular subwoofer/amp configuration.
