ROON labs, a provider of sophisticated music playback and management software, adds an open source equalisation plugin for headphone listening. Named OPRA, the plugin essentially is a repository of user collected EQ data for various headphones, which can be easily inserted and used inside ROON or ARC playback software.
Headphone enthusiasts now can gather and exchange useful experience related to their headphones' EQ habits with the added perk of trying new EQ curves out immediately using ROON.
OPRA (Open Profiles for Revealing Audio) plugin is now a part of ROON audio playback DSP engine (MUSE) under Headphone EQ option. There you can search stored user profiles by manufacturer and model. Saving the chosen preset locally allows further fine tuning if needed. OPRA feature is an answer to a lot of user requests to simplify the EQ process within MUSE DSP. It may be also an indication of Harman technologies trickling down after ROON have been purchased by Samsung a year ago.
ROON is paid, subscription-based music management, server and playback software. Digital players and DAC fully compatible with ROON are certified as Roon Ready (full certification as network endpoint, ROON software embedded) and Roon Tested (full playback compatibility, no embedded software). ROON is available on WIndows/Mac and some other desktop platforms, for mobile devices there is ROON ARC app.
Cary Audio has all current (and archived) DMS network players certified as Roon Ready. Mobile streamers from Chord Electronics, Poly and 2Go, are Roon Ready, while all current (and some archive) Chord Electronics DACs are Roon Tested. GoldNote streaming amps and DAC are Roon Ready (DS-10, DS-1000 EVO, IS-10, IS-1000).
