More people are discovering that combining a computer, USB cable, and USB DAC offers an excellent way to enjoy music. While it’s often assumed that USB cables, being inexpensive, don’t affect digital signal quality, our listening tests consistently prove otherwise.
The Shawline USB cable was developed in line with our established practice of using materials that deliver proven results and the conductor geometries we perfected during the development of our Sarum and Signature USB cables. Only once we are satisfied that the cable makes a significant improvement is it put into production.
Built using high-quality, silver-plated signal and power conductors, the Shawline USB separates the power conductors from the signal conductors with dedicated shielding. The specialised hard skin polyethylene insulation is designed for high-speed signal transfer, and an additional overall shield ensures the signal is protected to very high frequencies.
Like our Signature USB cables, the Shawline USB utilises a specially developed ARAY conductor geometry. It is hand-built with ChorAlloy™ plated USB A or USB B connectors.
Although we’d like to offer micro-USB connectors, the challenge of fitting heavier gauge conductors into such small connectors compromises mechanical reliability. High-performance miniature components have been difficult to achieve. However, for the past couple of years, we’ve been using our USB cables with USB B to micro-USB adaptors. Though adaptors are generally not ideal, in this case, we found them to deliver better performance compared to using micro-USB terminated cables. In fact, with high-end portable devices, the combination of our USB cables and an adaptor consistently provided superior results.
