DPA Microphones is an off-shoot of famous Danish measurement mic manufacturer Bruel & Kjaer (B&K) aimed at supplying studio applications with mics and headphones. Austrian Audio was founded in 2017 by former employees of AKG (a Harman company) in Vienna, Austria.

DPA Microphones was acquired in 2018 by a huge Italian pro audio corporation, RCF, with investment capital partly drawn from private equity groups. One of the private equity funds, Palladio Finanziaria Holding, in turn, took control over DPA Microphones and invested into re-location to a bigger production and R&D facilities near Copenhagen, Denmark.

In 2025 DPA merged with Austrian Audio, presumably to cover extra market span, since Austrian Audio made large diaphragm mics for the home studio market. while DPA’s mics were miniature and aimed at music and broadcast studio applications. Both also attempted to enter musician mic market so the merge was considered an opportunity for significant growth.

The parent company at the time, RCF Group, was interested in introducing wireless transmission capabilities into DPA’s mic range. Since Palladio Holdings also owned a majority share in Wisycom SRL of Padova, Italy which designs and manufactures high‑performance radio‑microphone systems, the two companies started collaborating and DPA introduced their first digital wireless microphone systems at ISE Show in 2025. It was jointly developed with Wisycom.

In 2026 all three brands will be joining Audiotonix team to expand the scope of its market offerings.
The M&A process is overseen by Sullivan & Cromwell LLP legal firm.
