Cabasse SA, a public trading company, and one of the most respected French loudspeaker manufacturers and innovators, went into court protected restructuring associated with insolvency.
According to French corporate law the Board of the company which is affected by insolvency (cessation des paiements) must apply to Commercial Court and request an appropriate procedure. The Court decides which procedure is best suited to the case and usually declares either liquidation (liquidation judiciaire) or re-organisation (redressement judiciaire) and appoints a third party as an insolvency practitioner. Such a request was petitioned by Cabasse to Montpellier Commercial Court on February 27, 2026. The Court decision announced on March 9 was for the company to enter judicial re-organisation.

Uninspiring financial performance in recent years, low consumer demand and increasing competition from bigger brands lead to the company’s cashflow problems and huge debt accumulation in 2024–25. In March 2025 the company issued convertible bonds (OCAs) and attempted to reschedule debt but the efforts proved unsuccessful. Loosing market edge due to limited capital was also a factor.
Following similar request same French court decided that Cabasse’s parent company VEOM Group will also enter receivership under same provisions of restructuring or sale to solve the group’s financial problems.
Cabasse, which was founded in 1950 by Georges Cabasse, is indeed an iconic speaker technology pioneer in France, with its research focused on coaxial drivers, spherical enclosures and active amplification at the dawn of the aforementioned technologies. Cabasse remained privately owned by Cabasse family until 2006, when it was, somewhat surprisingly, sold to a Japanese photo and office equipment giant Canon, Inc. AwoX S.A. acquired Cabasse in 2014 and later was subsequently renamed to Cabasse Group SA and then VEOM Group SA.
The founder of the company, Georges Cabasse, passed away in 2019.
The court appointed insolvency administrator Jean-François Blanc of the law firm Société FHBX to oversee the procedure. This external administration will try to sustain Cabasse operation, safeguard jobs and settle liabilities while the business is searching for investors or sale. Numerous reports indicate that it will be a difficult feat due to decreased commercial value of Cabasse.
