The DMS-700 boasts an intriguing DAC and a wide range of features that would undoubtedly appeal to many audiophiles. Acting as a network audio player and music streamer, it can retrieve music from various sources. This includes cloud streaming services like Qobuz, Tidal, and Spotify, as well as attached storage devices such as an SD card (located on the front) or a USB thumb drive. Additionally, it can fetch music from network attached storage, like a NAS drive. It's worth noting that unlike other music servers, the DMS-700 doesn't have built-in storage.

The rear of the device features a set of high-quality connections for digital input and output, along with essential analog outputs in both single-ended and balanced configurations. It offers options for both wireless and wired connections, although only one can be used at a time. Furthermore, there is Bluetooth capability for sending and receiving music, with support for 4.0 aptX HD.

Internally, the Cary DMS-700 is divided into three main sections. The left houses the power supply, the middle section contains the digital components, and the significant DAC section occupies the right side. The DAC is a standout feature of the DMS-700, with Cary emphasizing their meticulous attention to detail in its power supply design and output stage. It utilizes AKM's latest flagship AK4499EQ chipset and incorporates an FPGA and switched resistor design.

Among the other notable features, the DMS-700 is Roon ready and supports MQA with full 16x decoding.
