Meze Audio 99 Classics (2nd Gen), or v2, is a premium closed-back dynamic headphone that refines the iconic wooden-cup design with advanced acoustic engineering for a more balanced, neutral sound signature. At its core is a custom 40mm dynamic driver housed within CNC-machined and hand-finished Walnut wood ear cups.
The 2nd Gen architecture features an increased internal cup volume and precision acoustic sealing, which works in tandem with a new dedicated bass vent integrated directly into the jack shell to reduce standing waves and tightly control low frequencies. The front baffle has been re-engineered with a more open grille to minimize high-frequency diffraction, while the reshaped ear pads now utilize a clip-on mechanism to increase the front cavity volume and ensure perfect, repeatable alignment.
Structurally, it retains the legendary self-adjusting vegan leather and spring steel headband, paired with cast zinc hardware finished in matte gold. Weighing just 290 grams with a low 16-ohm impedance and 103 dB sensitivity, it is highly efficient for portable use. Uniquely, the 2nd Gen includes a set of custom acoustic absorbers, allowing users to physically shift the tuning back to the warmer, bass-heavy signature of the original classic model.
